Creativity: A Short Fun Story to Celebrate 2016 National Storytelling Week

Did you know that it is The Society for Storytelling's 16 annual National Storytelling Week, this week?

Here is one of Morgan Gleave Art & Design's contributions to the event, the other 'A Posh Do:  A Warning to Curvy Women Everywhere' can be found by clicking here.

CREATIVITY

Once upon a time there were some people living in Leicestershire.  Their very souls were seeped in creativity.

They used this creativity every day in their work with Morgan Gleave Art & Design, but often it was not enough.  Nearly every day they had leftover creativity spilling out everywhere.

If not used up properly during their working day, the creativity spilt onto their chairs, onto the floor, onto books and magazines, even all over the cat.  What a mess!

Fab chair.  Looks like a throne
Do you know what colour creativity is?  Purple.  Just like royal robes.  Ohhhh, it was pretty.  Well, those who were creative thought it was.  Other people did not always agree.  It tended to stain carpets and Pom Pom the cat was not too keen on being purple.
Poor Pom Pom...  Horrid neighbourhood cats!

The neighbourhood cats teased and laughed at Pom Pom when she was purple.  They said that she looked like a Jelly Babyt.  How mean!

It was not all bad, it helped Pom Pom catch mice.  The mice were so busy staring or rolling around on the floor laughing that they forgot to run away.

Run, Mousie, Run!  It may be purple but
IT IS STILL A CAT!
One day the Morgan Gleave Art & Design partners got bored with drawing, painting landscapes, cutting, sticking and even with making rockets from papier-mâché and buggies from Lego.

They stopped creating...

Peep Peep!  Peep Peep!

What to do?  Their creativity really got out of hand.  It was so bad that it was seeping out of the house under the red door.  Oh my word, what a clash of colours!

Goodness!  It looks like a purple 'red carpet'.
The creativity flowed onto the pavement turning it purple, over the kerb turning it purple, and into the road turning it purple too.

The creativity kept on flowing, there was so much of it that it turned the post box purple and even the pigeons sitting on a fence got caught!

Would you post a letter in a box that looked like this?

Poor little birdbrains!  They didn't even notice the purple all around them,
never mind that they were purple themselves.
Something had to be done!  Fast!  But what?  Create something of course!  Uh, ha!  A manga portrait!  That would make an exciting change and use up some creativity.

Out came the acrylic paints.  Out came an easel and a canvas.  Out came a pallet and some paint brushes.

In came a pretty woman to model.

Where's the purple?

Busy, busy, busy.  Paint, paint, paint.  Stand back.  Look.  Think.  Paint, paint, paint.  Busy, busy, busy.

All this time the creativity was receding and pouring into the painting.  The pigeon turned white and grey again.  The fence they had been sitting on turned cream again and the post box reverted to red.

Also, much to her relief, Pom Pom was back to her normal white self again.

Oh my giddy aunt!  Just look at those silk sheets!
What a floozy!

The road turned back to its normal, rather boring colour, as did the kerb and the pavement.  Eventually, most of the creativity has poured itself into the painting.  Can you see it?

Manga Rock Chick!

Sadly, not all the creativity could fit into one painting and some of it was left over.  Can you see the spare creativity?  It is on your screen.  Look!  You can see it!  It's each side of this blog.

Aaaahhh pretty...

THE END

Bleedin' Graphic Designers...

What Alf Garnet would say about Graphic Designers:
A tribute to Warren Mitchell

"Who does he think he is ponsing about in front of a canvas with a paintbrush in his mouth?  Bleedin’ Michael Angelwatsit?"

"Overpriced graphic-bleedin’-designers.  Spend two minutes moving a few photo’s around on a bloody computer, charge a fortune and spend the rest of the time on the golf course. It's facts, innit?"

"Marketin’.  Mar-kit-in’.  Bleedin’ mindbendin’.  Well, I mean, tryin’ to trick us into spending our hard earned wages on ponsy coffees.  Yer cappy chin nose, yer Americanos.  Tryin’ to sell us all that foreign muck.  What’s wrong with yer traditional English coffee?  We grow the best coffee in the world.  Bleedin’ graphic designers.  Don’t see ‘em using photos of your British coffee farmer, do ya?"

Nothing in the Universe can Stop you from Letting go and Starting Over

Welcome to the new Morgan Gleave Art & Design blog.  This is the first indication you will have that Morgan Gleave Art & Design is about to go through a major overhaul.  Why?  Well, it’s not a secret but please be patient because, as Mary Poppins sang, ‘Let's Start at the Very Beginning, a Very Good Place to Start’…

The Beginning

Recently, Morgan and Linda of Morgan Gleave Art & Design attended the Leicestershire Business Event at the Leicester Tigers Stadium.  It was a large, but not too large, event organised by Fleckney based Hi 2 Events.  There were talks, speed networking, exhibitions and, Linda liked this, lots of free chocolate.  Actually, there were lots of other freebies too but Linda had trouble getting past the chocolate.  Anyway, back to the point, the event was very well organised by Elaine Vandelli and her team so, in addition to the useful content, the event was great fun.

Dogs Welcome?
Linda and Morgan met many new, pleasant and interesting people.  Both learnt a lot and both discovered many services and products of interest. Linda met Andrew Harris from the Fit for Work Team who mix health and networking by organising walks in Bradgate Park.  However, whether or not dogs are welcome remains unclear.

Polka Dots
Emma Wennington of TBR Networking was impossible to miss in her bright red and white polka dot blouse.  Linda and Morgan are looking forward to meeting lots of new people at the TBR Networking launch on Friday and wish Emma all the best with her new venture.

Vegan Makeup and Skincare
Linda especially liked meeting Emma Blessed of Arbonne VeganProducts.  She tried really hard to work out how Arbonne’s wonderful skincare products and makeup could be incorporated into an art and design business.  Linda has not worked that out yet but is working on it.  In the meantime she thinks that it may be necessary for her to buy them for herself…

Marketing Jumpleads
As far as Morgan Gleave Art & Design is concerned, meeting Julia Canham, of Marketing Jumpleads was a turning point.  Marketing Jumpleads is a supported programme of marketing activities enabling small businesses such as Morgan Gleave Art & Design to enter the world of savvy marketing.

When approached, local marketing companies refused to work with Morgan Gleave Art & Design.  Given that they had in house graphic designers they felt that to agree to represent another design company would create a conflict of interest.  This left Linda muddling on alone.

Therefore, Marketing Jumpleads was a wonderful discovery.  It is a system of DIY marketing closely guided by experts.  Crucially, Marketing Jumpleads is happy working with a company offering graphic design.  Perfect.

All the World’s a Circle…
So, here we are back at the beginning discussing the changes to Morgan Gleave Art & Design.

Having started the Marketing Jumplead’s programme it became clear to Linda that a complete overhaul is required.  At present cartoons dominate giving the impression that that is all Morgan can do.  Wrong.  Absolutely, totally and completely wrong.

A New Beginning
This is it! This new blog is the first outward indication of Morgan Gleave Art & Design’s changes.  There will be a new logo and website among other things.

When?
No one is leaking the schedule.

“I love deadlines.  I love the whooshing noise as they go by.”
(Douglas Adams in The Salmon of Doubt)

Rather selfishly, Linda and Morgan want to keep any whooshing noises all to themselves so you will just have to wait and see.

What do you think of the show so far?
Although this is just the beginning, constructive feedback is welcome.
